A mix of poetry and flash fiction this month. I have not written sustained narrative so it's still new to me. I'm used to convoluted metaphors. Confessional writing feels so odd to me.

marionettes in matrimony

red threads tied

under the eyes of the living

and across the netherworld

the families unite

with offerings and blessings

bonds laid to rest

carolled inside a bonfire

their souls released into another life

Originally a #WyrdWednesday theme about death.

jacarandas

tiny trumpet sounds

their final tune

mossy air encircles

flares of periwinkle

rust onto the hillside

#SenseWrds 279: drifting, frayed, violets

inhale

a creak

escaped her throat

mouth agape

lowering volumes

taking in short breaths of noxious fumes

anxious—

she tries to

exhale

exhale

exhale

but

like a sinkhole

she consumes

For #vss365, 'sound'

Title: a worn-out woman by @k13uanh Poem: Her lips were cracked. A smile would have tugged at her taut face. Her flaxen complexion had weathered variegations - patina veins pulsated on her neck. Strained shoulders sent an ache down her spine. Closing the curtains and tumbling on her sofa, she could finally allow her eyes to rest.
Title: a never-bloomer by @k13uanh Prose: I no longer want to believe in romantic love as an act of happenstance or providence. Not when others receive consideration and adoration so easily. Does that mean I don't deserve that same ease? Another day, a lover girl gets rationed responses. Waiting for someone that does not exist. Another woman gets flowers in her vase. A hug that envelops their world. Perhaps the latter fate was never meant for me.
Title: Missed Calls by @k13uanh Prose: His face looked much rounder after his trip to Barcelona. His unsculpted cheeks rounded down towards his jaw. He gestured to the foiled bag in his left hand. Inside was a neon plastic keychain with her name on it, i box of milk chocolate and a stuffed brown rabbit. She was not sure what to make of these trinkets but attempted to loosen a smile from her face. He had not answered any of her calls for the past month. Retrieving a shiny black piece of metal from his pocket, he explained that his old mobile had spontaneously combusted on his travels. The new model was a necessary upgrade. She acknowledged his explanation with a nod. He showed off his new smartwatch too, excited about tracking his steps with a glance of his wrist. Earlier that day, he had not picked up her call either.
